Defeating Procrastination

The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
Proverbs 13:4 says

Procrastination is a very destructive mechanism. It can be an enemy in our pursuit of success and purpose. So we as believers should declare the victory over procrastination every chance we get. Many times we tend to put off what is important because we think of it as a daunting task like filing taxes, writing a term paper and paying bills.
Some people fall into procrastination because of fear of not being able to complete the task due lack of resources, time and confidence.

Let’s suppose the task for someone is to produce a blog post or clean the attic or even create a  family budget. Chances are we put off these tasks and wait until the last possible moment to try to do them. And many times we never come back to it. The worse thing about procrastination is that when we put off a task for a later time, we begin to fall short in the rest of the dealings of the day. Many of times our mind remains occupied by the thoughts of the delayed task, and we give ourself continuous mental torture until we complete the task. All day we are thinking about what we have put off. And it many times distracts us from the things that are right in front of us needing our attention.

I have experienced this myself, failing to get a postal stamp to put on an important letter that needs to go in the mail. This usually stays on my mind and heart until I finally complete the task.
Because we allow ourselves to get involved in other worthless activities and slowly withdraw into a passive mode, where we can not do physical or mental hard work.

Be encouraged because there is good news; we can pull off what seems to be a defeat with only a bit of discipline! The key to overcoming this is to not let procrastination overcome you.

Try this: Do your most important task first every morning. Discipline yourself to do so for at least a couple of months until you create a habit.

Discipline, determination and a deep desire to succeed are important in defeating procrastination. You can do it ........ just believe!!!!!!

Meditate on the word:

Proverbs 12:24 ESV
The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.

Ephesians 5:15-17 ESV
Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Luke 9:59-62 ESV
To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Philippians 4:13 ESV
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

James 4:17 ESV
So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

Stay Hungry!

Stay hungry and make "NO" your daily vitamin. What is the worse they can say? If they say no at least you tried, at least you got in the game, at least you asked the question.   Sometimes we don't even try because of the fear of rejection and sometimes fear of actually obtaining what we want. Challenge yourself and put your fear of failure to rest. Shoot for the moon and if you miss you will still be among the stars.

You have a purpose!

What God has done for countless people time and time again he can do the same for you.   Its never to late to start again and pursue everything God has for you.   You are worth so much to God and he only wants the best for you!

Romans 2:11 (NLT)

For God does not show favoritism.

We were built for this!

Psalm 18:32-34 NIV
It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

I am built for this! This was the phrase that came to my mind today after speaking to some people the last few days and trying to walk them through situations in their lives.   After putting down the phone and reflecting on why God allowed our paths to cross it came to me that if it came my way then I must be able to handle it. Whether its my own struggles, dealing with disappointment or accomplishing a long wanted goal. I am learning that what comes my way is what God knew I could handle.  Now there are times when I am like God really? Did this just happen? You have got to be kidding me…...Why me?  I am then reminded of Exodus 3-4 that describes Moses' conversation with God; where God gave him instructions to go to Pharaoh in his name. Moses began to question the Lord asking what if the people don't receive me or believe that I was sent by God.  His speech impairment and insecurities were crippling the way he thought about himself. Moses was giving to much strength and power to his limitations and fears .  But instead of giving place to Moses' insecurities God interrupted this negative behavior and instead spoke strength and reassurance to Moses. Letting him know "I am God" who gave man the ability to speak and see.   In layman's terms God was saying " I got this and I got you".  God has equipped us for everything that comes our way good or bad. So don't question the power, gifts and the anointing he has placed inside of you to handle this journey we call life…….trust it and trust God!

Pay it Forward!

This weekend I had an awesome experience in which intelliegent, strong black women decided they were going to pay it forward to a group of deserving female college hopefuls.   I say these young women are deserving because in today's society where violence, war and poverty have taken over the daily news, we have young people that are still striving for greatness.   The young women that entered into the Project Aloe room  on this Saturday represented strength to me.   Just being apart of a group of women that care enough about a young person's future to donate their time and resources in hopes that they can encourage and empower was absolutely beautiful to me.   I encourage everyone to pay-it-forward.  When we think about where we have come from to where we are now; many of us had help. Someone took the time with us or shared an experience that helped us get through a trying time.   Or some people had no one to help them along the way and wished someone took time  to show them.  What better way to make sure someone else doesn't have to go down that same road alone then to lend a hand and pay-it-forward. It doesn't have to be something grand but do something that will make a difference in someone's life.

My voice

My voice
I have a voice that God gave me
A voice that is strong and clear
Sweet and raspy yet full of authority
Now I know it can be soft at times
But now is not that time

My voice it gives me strength when I want to retreat
It rises up from the depths of me and climbs to the highest peak
My voice can not be quiet now, it is determined to speak
For it has something to say, something to sing, something to scream
So it chooses now to state its case,to make its plea
Its saying you will listen to me

Its determination to be heard
The fight that it has within me
To push past my insecurities,
To fulfill its duties of my destiny
The voice that gives me strength now has something to say
Should you, Can you, will you listen
